Day 1: Cachora – Coca Masana – Rosalina Beach
We will start the first day by picking you up at your hotel around 05:00 am. Then, we will embark on a private vehicle trip that will take us approximately 4 hours to Cachora. During the drive, you will be able to marvel at the impressive snow-capped mountains of Salkantay and Veronica, considered the Sacred Gods of the Incas. In addition, you will enjoy panoramic views of colorful valleys at the top and bottom. After 4 hours of travel, we will arrive at Cachora (2,900 masl), a picturesque Andean village. We will continue for about another hour to Capulliyuc, where we will meet our muleteers and our talented cook, who will prepare a delicious meal for us to begin our trek. We will hike for two hours to Chikiska (2,115 masl), where we will get our first views of the Apurimac Valley below, as well as the snow-capped peaks of Padreyoc and Wayna Cachora (5,482 masl). We then descend the eastern slopes of the Andes until we reach Coca Masana (2,330 masl). As we advance, the temperature will increase and the flora and fauna will begin to change. Finally, we will arrive at Playa Rosalina (1,550 masl), where we will set up our tents next to the Apurimac River.
Day 2: Rosalina Beach – Maranpata – Choquequirao
Our team will wake you up early, at 5:00 am, with coca tea delivered to your tent. Then, we will quickly pack up, enjoy a light breakfast and begin the hike to Maranpata or Choquequirao, which we will reach after noon. Once at the archaeological site, we will explore this treasure step by step, appreciating the skill and intelligence of the people who built these impressive Inca ruins. During this exploration, we will have the opportunity to observe the majestic flight of the condors around 3 pm in the Choquequirao area. Afterwards, we will head to Raqaypata, where we will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 3: Choquequirao Full Day
The third day is dedicated entirely to enjoying the magic, history and splendor of Choquequirao. Your guide will spend approximately 5 hours explaining the highlights of Choquequirao, giving you an in-depth understanding of the site’s 8 sectors, which include granaries, houses, temples and three levels of excavated ruins of this late Inca city. In addition, you will have the opportunity to marvel at the majestic flight of the condors, which usually appear around 3 pm in the Choquequirao area. In the afternoon, we will return to our campsite for lunch and then enjoy the tranquility of Choquequirao overnight.
Day 4: Choquequirao – Santa Rosa – Chiquiska
Once again, we will get up early to take advantage of the coolness of the morning, as from 9 am the heat intensifies. After breakfast, we will quickly pack up and begin the hike to the village of Santa Rosa, where the vegetation will become lush and the climate warmer. We will continue ascending to the Chiquiska sector, where we will have lunch and spend the night.
Day 5: Chiquiska – Cachora – Cusco
On this last day, we will wake up early, around 5:00 am, with coca tea delivered to your tent. Then, we will quickly pack up, enjoy a light breakfast and begin the hike to the highest point of the Choquequirao trail, which will take approximately 4 hours of ascent.
