Maras and Moray Tour Highlights
Maras and Moray are two fascinating destinations in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, near Cusco, Peru. Here I present to you the best of Maras and Moray:
Maras:
- Salineras de Maras: The Salineras de Maras are a series of thousands of terraced salt pits used for salt extraction. The scenery is breathtaking, with the white terraces contrasting with the natural surroundings and mountains. It is a unique and picturesque place.
- Local Culture: Visiting Maras gives you the opportunity to interact with the local people and learn about their way of life. You can learn about the tradition of salt extraction that has endured for centuries.
- Natural Scenery: The surroundings of Maras are beautiful. The Andean landscape, mountains and vegetation make this an ideal place to hike and enjoy nature.
Moray:
- Inca Agricultural Laboratory: Moray is famous for its concentric terraces that resemble an amphitheater. It is believed that these terraces were used as an Inca agricultural laboratory, where they experimented with different crops at different altitudes, contributing to the success of Inca agriculture.
- Panoramic Views: From the top of the Moray terraces, you get breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding area. The mountains and agricultural landscape are simply spectacular.
- Inca History: Exploring Moray is an opportunity to learn about the history and advanced agricultural skills of the Incas. The engineering used to create these terraces is a testament to the knowledge and skill of this ancient civilization.
The combination of Maras and Moray offers a unique experience in the Sacred Valley, with breathtaking scenery, rich Inca history and the opportunity to interact with the local culture.

Moray And Maras Salt Pools – Half Day Itinerary
We would like to inform you that the tour itinerary will begin promptly at 07:00 am from your hotel. Our tour will start with a visit to explore the Textile center of Chinchero, followed by a trip to the charming Colonial town of Maras. Continuing on, we will then visit the nearby Inca site of Moray, which boasts a stunning series of terrace circles that were once utilized by the Incas for crop experimentation. Our final destination is the salt mines that have been utilized since Pre-Inca times. This mining site operates by channeling subterranean stream water through pools where it evaporates and then leaves behind pure salt crystals. The views from the thousands of stark white pools stretching down the valley are simply breathtaking. The tour will conclude at approximately 03:00 pm.
