Essential Information About Palcoyo Mountain Full Day Tour

Altitude

Palcoyo Mountain sits at approximately 4,900 meters (16,076 ft) above sea level. Although the hike is short and relatively easy, the altitude can still be challenging. We recommend spending at least one or two days in Cusco to acclimatize before the tour.

Difficulty Level

Easy to moderate. The walk is gentle with minimal elevation gain and takes around 1.5 to 2 hours in total. It is a great alternative to the more demanding Vinicunca trek.

Hiking Distance

Approximately 3 to 4 kilometers (round trip). The trail is wide and accessible, with gradual inclines.

Weather

Weather in the Andes can change quickly. Mornings are usually cold, especially during the dry season (May to September). From November to March, expect occasional rain. Dressing in layers is strongly recommended.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season (April to October) offers clearer skies and better views of the colorful mountains. However, Palcoyo is less crowded year-round compared to other rainbow mountain routes.

Acclimatization

Due to the high altitude, it is important to rest, stay hydrated, and avoid alcohol before the tour. Light meals the night before are also recommended.

Group Size

Small groups allow for a more personalized and organized experience, with better interaction with your guide.

Why Choose Palcoyo

Palcoyo offers three rainbow mountains, fewer crowds, easier access, and stunning panoramic views — making it ideal for travelers who want incredible scenery without an intense hike.
