Itinerary
ARRIVAL IN LIMA – CITY TOUR
Upon arrival in Lima, you will be met and transferred to your selected hotel.
This afternoon you will embark on a half-day guided tour of Lima, visiting the historic center, the Plaza de Armas and the San Francisco Monastery, which houses the intriguing catacombs that give an impressive insight into what religious life was like during the Spanish colonial era. You will visit the Monastery and descend into the catacombs of the convent that served until 1808 as a burial place; an extraordinary fact is that the monks arranged the remains according to bone types resulting in an absolutely amazing display of burials. Continue to the Aliaga House, an old house given by Francisco Pizarro to his captain Jeronimo de Aliaga, after the foundation of the city and its construction started in 1535.
Head to the Larco Herrera Museum, located in an 18th century colonial mansion. The museum houses Peru’s most extensive collection of pre-Columbian art, with fine examples of textile work, one of which holds the world record of 398 threads per inch. Also housed in the museum are the materials and tool used by the ancient Peruvians to make their ceramic and metal work, huaco pottery, gold and silver pieces with semi-precious stones, and pieces of erotic art.

LIMA – SACRED VALLEY
At the indicated time you will be transferred to the airport to take your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you will be driven to the “Sacred Valley of the Incas”, a succession of picturesque Andean villages, agricultural terraces and numerous archaeological sites, as well as the world’s most famous white corn grown for export. The temperate climate, varied and dramatic landscape of snow-capped mountains, flowering grasslands, lush green hills and spectacular flora and fauna make the country a premier adventure destination in South America. At a lower altitude than Cuzco, the Valley is a warmer and less physically demanding environment for visiting the region’s many attractions, including Machu Picchu.
On the way to the Sacred Valley, visit Sacsayhuaman, which is the largest and most impressive of the four archaeological ruins outside Cuzco. Built by the Incas, it served an important military function and was the scene of a major battle with the Spanish in 1536. The complex was built with huge stones, some weighing up to 300 tons, cut to fit together without the use of mortar.
You will also stop to learn about ancient weaving techniques and the residence of the Lambarri-Orihuela family, descendants of one of Cusco’s most prestigious families. Built in the 1950s, it is located 2 km uphill from the main Sacred Valley, between Calca and Urubamba, in the midst of a beautiful setting, with stunning garden views over the Sacred Valley and an impressive collection of Inca and colonial art and artifacts. The Casa-Hacienda has the magical ability to make us forget the reality of life. Lunch today will be an extraordinary event.
