Machu Picchu Tour 2 Days - Itinerary

Day 1
Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes

Cusco → Ollantaytambo (Transfer)

Your adventure begins with hotel pickup in Cusco at approximately 10:00 am. From there, enjoy a comfortable transfer of about 1 hour and 45 minutes to the Ollantaytambo train station, passing through the scenic landscapes of the Sacred Valley.

Ollantaytambo → Aguas Calientes (Train Journey)

At around 12:55 pm, board your Expedition or Voyager train to Aguas Calientes. During the 1.5-hour ride, take in breathtaking views of the Andes, winding rivers, and lush cloud forest as you approach Machu Picchu.

Arrival in Aguas Calientes (Hotel Check-In)

Upon arrival, you will transfer to your hotel in Aguas Calientes. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to relax, explore the town, or enjoy the peaceful atmosphere at the foot of the mountains.

Evening Briefing with Your Guide

Around 7:00 pm, you will meet your professional guide for a detailed orientation about the visit to Machu Picchu the following day. This briefing ensures you are fully prepared and ready for an unforgettable experience.

Day 2
Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Aguas Calientes – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

Aguas Calientes → Machu Picchu (Bus Ride)

Your day begins early with breakfast at your hotel around 5:00 am. Shortly after, you’ll take a 30-minute bus ride up to the main entrance of Machu Picchu. The gates open at 6:00 am, giving you the opportunity to experience the site in the soft morning light and with fewer visitors.

Guided Tour of Machu Picchu

Once inside, you’ll meet your professional guide for a comprehensive 2.5-hour guided tour. Discover the most important sectors of the citadel while learning about its history, architecture, and spiritual significance.

Optional Mountain Hikes

After the guided visit, you may choose to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain for panoramic views of the ruins and surrounding valleys. These hikes require advance reservation due to limited permits.

If you prefer a more relaxed pace, you may spend additional time exploring Machu Picchu independently before descending to Aguas Calientes.

Machu Picchu → Aguas Calientes (Bus)

After your visit, take the shuttle bus back down to Aguas Calientes, where you’ll have free time to rest or explore the town before your return journey.

Aguas Calientes → Ollantaytambo (Train)

In the afternoon, board your train at approximately 2:30 pm or 2:55 pm for a scenic 1.5-hour ride back to Ollantaytambo.

Ollantaytambo → Cusco (Transfer)

Upon arrival, our private transport will be waiting to take you back to Cusco. You’ll be dropped off directly at your hotel, concluding your unforgettable 2-day Machu Picchu experience.

Pick-Up Information

Hotel pick-up is available within Cusco city. We strongly recommend staying in the historic center for easier access.

Your exact pick-up time will be reconfirmed one day before departure. Please note that traffic conditions and narrow streets in Cusco may cause slight timing variations.

If you booked the group service, please note that travelers of different ages and fitness levels may participate. Each person is free to explore Machu Picchu at their own pace during the designated time.
