Rainbow Mountain Peru Trek 2 days
Day 1: Cusco – Alqatari – Ausangate – Ananta.
We start the day by picking you up at your hotel at 04:00 am. Then, we start a 3-hour drive to Qanchipacha, where our professional chef prepares us a comforting hot breakfast. Afterwards, we continue driving for an additional 20 minutes to the trailhead, where we organize our belongings and review the itinerary. Our high-altitude adventure begins in the morning, passing local houses, beautiful pampas and spotting numerous llamas and alpacas.
Our destination takes us to Pucacocha, from where we enjoy a spectacular view of the Ausangate glacier, Cusco’s highest mountain at 6,370 meters above sea level. After admiring the glacier and the colorful tarns (mountain lakes), we descend to our campsite and enjoy a delicious lunch. As the sun sets, our team sets up the dining tent with chairs, allowing you to relax and, if you wish, enjoy a game of soccer at over 4,700 meters above sea level while our chef prepares dinner. In the evening, you will have the opportunity to contemplate a starry sky full of southern hemisphere constellations.
Day 2: Ananta – Rainbow Mountain – Cusco.
Today is the day you have been looking forward to: exploring the impressive Rainbow Mountain. We will wake you up at 03:30 a.m. with coca tea or coffee, delivered directly to your tent, and provide you with a hot breakfast to recharge your batteries before starting the ascent to the Warmi Saya pass, which is located at 5,150 meters above sea level. Then, we will descend next to a lake and walk along two lakes until we reach Vinicunca, the Rainbow Mountain. Once there, you will have the opportunity to take as many photos as you wish, explore the mountain with the local guide and really immerse yourself in the beauty of the colorful mountains that surround you. It is a truly spectacular place. We will then embark on our descent, which will take approximately two hours, and celebrate the success of our trip with a delicious lunch before returning to Cusco (a 3.5 hour drive). We estimate to arrive in Cusco around 6 p.m.
