The experience
Explore Tambopata on a four-day, three-night stay at Posada Amazonas, a rainforest ecolodge connected with the Ese Eja Native Community. Designed for families and couples, the program combines river travel, guided night walks, a parrot clay lick, a visit to a giant ceiba and a catamaran outing on Tres Chimbadas Lake. Children can join an explorer welcome, while guides introduce the plants, wildlife and stories of the forest. A sunset journey on the Tambopata River adds a quiet moment together before the return to Puerto Maldonado. Activities follow the lodge program and local conditions, and wildlife encounters remain part of nature rather than a guaranteed performance.

Day 1 — Puerto Maldonado to Posada Amazonas
Receive an airport welcome and transfer approximately ten minutes to the operator’s Puerto Maldonado headquarters. Pack the essentials for your lodge stay and leave excess luggage in the operator’s safe deposit.

Continue approximately 20 kilometers to the Tambopata River port, followed by an approximately 45-minute boat journey to Posada Amazonas. A box lunch is provided along the way.
On arrival, the lodge manager provides an orientation and navigation and safety information. Children are welcomed with an explorer ritual that includes a seed bracelet and an Amazonian-style temporary tattoo, introducing them to their rainforest adventure.

As darkness falls, follow your guide with flashlights to search for insects, frogs and other nocturnal creatures. With luck, a pink-toed tarantula or other forest inhabitants may appear. Learn why each creature matters to the ecosystem; sightings vary naturally.

Day 2 — Forest Adventure, Parrot Clay Lick & Giant Ceiba
The proposed program includes an ascent of approximately 30 meters using a rope, harness and mechanical ascender, inspired by the work of macaw researchers. This is a demanding activity at height. Availability, guide supervision, equipment and participation requirements, especially for children, must be confirmed with the operator before booking.

Walk approximately twenty minutes from Posada Amazonas to an observation blind near the clay lick. Watch for parrots and parakeets feeding on the riverbank clay, potentially including Mealy and Yellow-headed Amazons, Blue-headed Parrots and Dusky-headed Parakeets. Activity depends on weather, timing and natural conditions.

In the afternoon, hike to an enormous ceiba tree and discover the forest’s scale and history. Guides share Amazonian legends and folktales, with opportunities for children and adults to reflect on conservation and the importance of protecting nature.
Return to the lodge for dinner and your second night surrounded by the rainforest.

Day 3 — Tres Chimbadas Lake & Tambopata Sunset
After breakfast, travel approximately thirty minutes by boat and walk approximately forty-five minutes through the forest to Tres Chimbadas oxbow lake.

Explore the lake by paddle catamaran and look for giant river otters and other lakeside wildlife, such as caimans, hoatzins and horned screamers. Your guide helps you search and understand the habitat. Animals move freely and sightings are not guaranteed. Return to the lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, take a boat ride along the Tambopata River as the light changes. Listen to the forest and watch the riverbanks for birds, turtles, caimans or other wildlife. The program includes a sunset toast with a traditional Amazonian drink; confirm suitable options for children when arranging the experience.

After dinner, you may join another guided night walk. Listen for frogs and look for nocturnal life; mammals can be active after dark but are often difficult to see.
